Cloud recording vs. buying storage?
With a traditional NVR system (including UniFi Protect-style setups), "adding storage" means buying hardware up front: the recorder plus surveillance-rated hard drives, sized to your camera count and retention — and re-buying bigger drives when you need longer retention. Footage lives on-site, where it can be stolen, damaged, or tampered with, and remote access depends on your network setup.
Cloud recording flips that: no NVR, no hard drives, no up-front storage cost. Retention is a plan setting you can change any time, footage is stored off-site with AES-256 encryption, and every camera is viewable from anywhere on day one. Prefer local storage anyway?
