DW Spectrum — Clean Reinstall Guide (Backup, Uninstall, Restore)
Full clean-reinstall procedure for a DW Spectrum server: back up the system database and licenses, remove Spectrum completely, install fresh, and restore your configuration.
Before you start: the database backup covers the system configuration (cameras, users, layouts, recording settings) — not the recorded footage. Footage stays on the storage drives and reattaches after reinstall. Licenses are tied to the server hardware; keep the exported list in case a key needs reactivation by DW support.
Create a database backup
In the Spectrum client open System Administration → General and use Create Backup… to save the system database file somewhere safe (not on the server's own drive).
Export the licenses list
Open System Administration → Licenses and export/record every license key before uninstalling.
Clean uninstall Spectrum
Uninstall the DW Spectrum server and client, then remove the leftover program and data folders so the new install starts clean — the article covers both Windows and Ubuntu.
Install the latest DW Spectrum
Download Latest Server (Windows)
Download Latest Client (Windows)
These links always fetch the newest DW Spectrum release automatically. Install the server first, then the client.
Restore from backup
Open the client, connect to the new server, then System Administration → General → Restore from Backup… and pick the file from step 1. The server restarts with your configuration in place; confirm cameras, storage and licenses came back.
