Uniview NVR — Why One Hour Plays Twice When Daylight Saving Time Ends
When Daylight Saving Time ends, the clock goes back one hour, so 1:00–2:00 AM happens twice that night. Your Uniview NVR keeps both hours. Nothing is lost. This page shows why playback looks odd for that hour and how to find each copy.
Why there are two 1 AM hours
For one night, the clock reads 1:00 to 2:00 AM two times in a row. The first time is still Daylight Saving Time. The second time is regular (standard) time. Both hours look exactly the same on a clock.
How the NVR keeps both
The NVR does not save video by your local clock. It saves video by world time (UTC), a clock that never jumps for Daylight Saving Time. So the first hour is saved, and the second hour is saved right after it. Nothing gets recorded over.
What you see when you play it back
On the NVR screen and on the web page, the timeline only has room for one 1:00–2:00 AM hour, so you see it once.
Press play and the first hour plays. When it ends, the progress bar jumps back to 1:00 AM and plays the second hour. This jump is normal. It is not a glitch and not missing video.
Searching for a time inside that hour
If you search for, say, 1:30 AM, the NVR cannot tell which 1:30 AM you mean. Both are real. So it shows you one of them:
- If the last video you watched was from the first hour, it shows the first 1:30 AM.
- If the last video you watched was from the second hour, it shows the second 1:30 AM.
To see the other one, search again, or start playback before 1:00 AM and let it run past the jump. Either answer is correct video.
Based on the manufacturer's technical note on Daylight Saving Time and recording storage.
