4G camera on a Verizon SIM — poor / intermittent connection
The camera registers and the app loads, pings succeed, but video stalls, never starts, or drops out, and
firmware pushes fail partway. Small packets get through while large ones vanish.
Fix: set the camera's MTU to 1228 (Network settings). No firmware change
needed. If 1228 does not fix it, the problem is not MTU.
Why this works: MTU is the largest packet a link carries in one piece.
Ethernet defaults to 1500, but the carrier wraps every packet in extra tunnelling headers, so less fits on
the cellular side — Verizon's own LTE spec calls for 1428 bytes. A too-big packet marked
“don't fragment” is silently discarded, and carriers block the error messages that would report
it — so the link tests fine while every large transfer dies. 1228 keeps every packet safely under the
ceiling, with headroom for VPN/IPv6 overhead. The cost is a few percent of throughput; the gain is a stream
that actually runs.

XVR beeping / drive dropouts / not recording with a large hard drive
Drive disappears or stops recording and the recorder beeps an abnormal state; the vendor bench-tests the
bare unit and finds nothing wrong.
Fix: replace the bundled power adapter with a 12V 3A or larger supply
before blaming the drive or recorder.
Why this works: the XVR alone draws about 1A at 12V, and an 8TB drive
draws another ~1.7–1.8A — together that exceeds the factory 2A adapter, so the drive browns out
under load. Confirmed with the vendor (ticket GD202608140031); two field units hit it.
